EV Prices In Nepal — From High To Low

By: Rajiv Prajapati  | | 3 mins Jul 5, 2021

Going full electric in the transportation sector has been a stated goal of the Nepali government for some time now. This year, we even saw some progressive new tax policies that drastically reduced the tax burden on electric vehicles or EVs.

In line with these government resolutions, auto companies are also offering more and more selections for customers in the growing EV market. So, here is a brief overview of some major options in the Nepali EV market — from the budget to the luxury range.

A. Budget Range

When it comes to EVs, there have been a few choices available in Nepal since before the global push towards electric transport. These vehicles were made available at an appealing rate. Today, you can be an EV owner for as little as 19.5 lakhs.

1. Derry EV7

The Derry EV7 is a model offered by Chinese manufacturer Henan Derry. It is equipped with a 17 kWh battery that can give you a surprisingly large range of 230 km on a full charge.

With the recent update in electric vehicle taxes, you can actually get this car for 19.5 lakh rupees. It also comes with some futuristic features such as a touchscreen infotainment system and rear-view camera.

Price: 19.5 Lakh

2. THEE GO E8

The THEE GO E8 is one of the most popular electric cars in Nepal, and received a good deal of hype when it was first launched. For a little less than 22 lakhs, the THEE GO E8 is a capable EV for driving around the city, with a range of 150 km on a single charge.

This small EV can seat up to 5 people and has a not-so-small boot space of 183 liters.

Price: 22 Lakh

3. Mahindra E20 Plus

The Mahindra E20 Plus has been around in Nepal for nearly a decade. It is perfect for city rides with a range of 140 km and a limited power of 41 bhp.

Some of the cool features of the E20 Plus is the quick charging, which lets you charge the vehicle within 90 minutes, and the SOS feature which conserves energy to give you an additional 7 to 10 km of range if the battery goes below 10%.

Price: 31 Lakh

B. Mid-Range

The most exciting EV models currently available in Nepal are available between 50 and 80 lakhs. Most of the models in this range have been introduced quite recently, and offer an amazing balance of performance and features versus cost.

1. MG ZS EV

The MG ZS EV features the best collection of performance and features at a competitive cost. You can get one of these machines for 50.9 lakh. For that money, you get a vehicle with a massive 350 Nm of torque, 428 km of single-charge range, and a battery warranty that lasts 8 years or 180 thousand kilometers.

There are some advanced driving and steering modes, as well as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. For a little more money, you can even get a large sunroof with this model.

Price: 50.9 Lakh

2. KIA Soul EV

KIA offers two EV models for the Nepali market. The KIA Soul EV is a subcompact SUV that has won multiple international accolades, so it must be special, right? This model costs Rs. 56 lakhs and is equipped with a motor that offers 285 Nm of power, which is quite reasonable.

This car will drive around 200 km on a full charge, and also supports DC fast charging. If you were to use the AC port at home, then it will be fully charged in about 12 to 14 hours. As a compact SUV, it also has a good deal of boot space at 315 liters.

Price: 56 Lakh

3. KIA Niro

KIA was forced to remove the Niro from its lineup last year, as the disastrous increase in EV taxes would have increased the price for this machine to well above 1 crore rupees.

Well, now this beautiful SUV is back on the market for 69.9 lakh rupees. The Niro is heavily spec’ed out with 395 NM of torque and 455 km of range. This car also features front-wheel drive and has a storage capacity of 523 liters — absolutely massive!

Price: 69.9 Lakh

4. Hyundai Ioniq

Hyundai’s Ioniq has a sleek, futuristic look. It is probably the best-looking EV sedan in Nepal right now. This model comes with 295 Nm of torque and can give you a top speed of 165 km/h. The Ioniq will give you 273.6 km of range on a single charge.

Price: 57.96 Lakh

5. Hyundai Kona

The Kona is also one of the popular EVs in Nepal at the moment. This car is an SUV model and has a standard top speed of 155 km/h. You can get this model with a standard and a regular range, with the standard model offering 312 km of range and the extended one giving 482 km of range.

You also get 332 liters of storage space with the Hyundai Kona. This vehicle has two key variants — the 100 kW version, which costs 57.9 lakh, and the 150 kW version which costs 71.9 lakh.

Price: 57.9 Lakh (100 kW) & 71.9 Lakh (150 kW)

C. Luxury

The top price range of EVs in Nepal is currently occupied by none other than Tesla. A company named ARETE International imported a number of Teslas to Nepal last year.

1. Tesla Model 3

As per last year’s tax rules, the company sold a number of Tesla Model 3’s at 1 crore and 25 lakh rupees. ARETE International has set the updated price for Tesla Model 3 at 90 lakhs.

Tesla is of course the cutting edge of innovation in electric vehicles, and the Model 3 inherits all of that. It is a stylish-looking sedan with a dual-motor all-wheel drive. The standard model comes with 423 km of range and a top speed of 260 km/h.

Price: 90 Lakh
