Man Has The Wrong Leg Amputated Due To ‘Human Error’ By The Hospital
What comes to mind when you think of ‘human error’ in a hospital? Maybe slight mismanagements here and there, right? Well, what about amputating the wrong leg of an elderly patient?
This is the story to come out of Freistadt Clinic, Austria. An 82-year-old man who was due to have his left leg removed ended up with his right leg removed due to a ‘human error’ by the hospital staff.
A hospital worker marked his wrong leg before surgery which led to this unfortunate incident. The man also had to remove his correct leg after this debacle, making him go through an extra surgery at his age. He and his family have been offered psychological support, and the surgeon involved is off duty right now, of her own accord.
The hospital has sent the details of the incident to the concerned authorities with a statement that reads, "We would also like to affirm that we will be doing everything to unravel the case, to investigate all internal processes and critically analyze them. Any necessary steps will immediately be taken".
What do you think of the story? Do you think the staff responsible should get serious consequences? Or do you think human errors occur in every field and they've offered compensation so it's fine? Tell us in the comments. Like us on Facebook for more.
